Howzit All!! I have returned from a most amazing trip to South Africa and its many wine regions, with a litany of fabulous wines that I will be presenting you all over the next few months. So, to embark on this ‘Mojo Wine Safari’ I bring you Avondale’s Jonty’s Ducks Pekin White 2017. Owner, Jonathan Grieve’s motto for the winery and the farm is ‘Terra Est Vita’ meaning ‘Soil is life’ and I have experienced few people as passionate about organics and biodynamics as he is. The approach to the farm is that of a subtle nudge in the right direction with the right mixture of energy and love that blossoms into greatness. This Jonty’s Ducks Pekin White 2017 is the epitome of that and while driven with Chenin Blanc there is also a smattering of Roussanne, Viognier and Semillon for balance and a pleasant softness to the wine. Mild grapefruit, pineapple and citrus zest are softened by a drizzle of honey. Good intensity, with a lovely lingering finish that goes flawlessly with a nice spread of charcuterie and good friends. OH, and ask me about the ducks when you are in! -Wees gesond!
