When tasting the 2015 Cleebourg Vieilles Vignes (old vines) Pinot Gris I was blown away by how much this white from Alsace, France had to offer. Pinot Gris is the same varietal as Pinot Grigio, but due to the climate that these grapes are grown in Pinot Gris tends to be more expressive and usually offers more complexity. The Cleebourg shines with notes of honey, dried apricot, lemon curd, golden apple and baked pear. There is so much going on here! The expressive bouquet segues into a lush and round textured palate that is silky smooth. The mouthwatering acidity helps to keep it dry and refreshing, with a finish that just goes on and on. An extremely versatile wine, this Pinot Gris is the perfect white for Thanksgiving dinner, or all holiday fare for that matter. You can treat it as an aperitif, or have it with appetizers, cheese and charcuterie boards, and it will still carry you through to the main course.
