Jamie’s Wine of the Week

Mercat Brut Nature Cava

In my experience, most wine drinkers are buying sparkling wine for their weekend mimosas and the occasional celebratory toast, yet the potential for these bubbling bottles of deliciousness is endless! Sparkling wine is a perfect pairing option for a wide array of food and can be used as a cocktail base for so much more than a simple mimosa. Try making a Paris Sunset, Aperol Spritz, or Limoncello Spritz next time you’re in need of a refreshing reprieve from this summer heat. Now the question beckons, which wine to go with? Mercat Brut Nature Cava is a remarkable value out of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Spain that never disappoints. Winemaker, Francisco Dominguez hand crafts each bottle in the traditional Champagne method with 18 months aging on its lees. A very low dosage means this bottling is bone dry which allows lemon zest and stone fruit characteristics along with intense minerality to shine. Try a glass alongside anything from Baja fish tacos to kale salad with carrot ginger dressing, or your favorite charcuterie. Cheers!
