Jamie’s Wine of the Week 1/01/24

Maz Caz Rouge 2017

The dog days of Summer call for Barbeques to work overtime and if you’re like me, you’ll need a red wine that can stand up to the char and balance the smoke. Maz Caz, located in the Costières de Nîmes AOC of France’s Rhône Valley, means “crazy in a good way” and the winery has a simple philosophy. Their aim is to make that one unassuming wine you had on vacation-the one that was locally made and inexpensive, yet mind-blowingly good. They have created the perfect Grenache-based blend to support nearly any dry-rubbed, smoked, or grilled fare your creative culinary mind can conjure. 20% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah provide dark fruit, structure, and a subtle peppery spice to the gamey Grenache core of this wine. Cheers! – Jamie
