Anselmo Mendes Passaros 2019
The Vinho Verde DO, located in northern Portugal, is the largest wine producing region in the country. Often, you will find Vinho Verde associated with light, lively, and lightly spritzed white wines. However, the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço in the northern part of the DO specializes in wines made from Alvarinho grape. Winemaker Anselmo Mendes and Alvarinho have been nearly synonymous since he began production in Monção and Melgaço in 1998. Through years of passion and experimentation, Mendes has created wines that consistently receive high praise from critics and wine enthusiasts alike. His Passaros bottling is a crisp white blend of 50% Alvarinho and 50% Loureiro sourced from small vineyards in the sub-region of Lima. With notes of mandarin, orange blossom, and stone fruits, this wine will compliment lemon and shaved parmesan arugula salad or pan seared Halibut with lemon butter sauce.
Cheers! Jamie
