So you haven’t tried Tannat- why not? Originating in the small French village of Madiran, the grape has become popular among vintners in Uruguay as well as Argentina. The Romero Marcuzzi family recognized the potential for the varietal in the early 2000’s and after purchasing a historic winery in Salta Argentina, focused on restoring the 50 year old Tannat vines found on the property. Their El Provenir ‘Amaute’ bottling is 100% Tannat and a great introductory expression of the grape. Dark fruit dominates the nose and palate accompanied by savoury spice and structured tannins. This is the perfect glass of wine to pair with hearty Fall meals such as beef stew and roasted root vegetables.
