Jamie’s Wine of the Week

VAGLIO BLANCO 2019
Tucked in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina you can find the vineyards of Vaglio winery. The property was founded in 2013 by José Lovaglio Balbo, son of famed winemaker, Susanna Balbo- the first woman to earn an enology degree in Argentina. José aims to highlight the various microclimates of Northern Mendoza through experimenting with single vineyard expressions of high elevation, sustainably-farmed fruit. His 2019 Blanco is a blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Semillon fermented in concrete with native yeasts. A light filtration and 10 months in used French oak barrels bring harmony to this delicately balanced wine. Chardonnay characteristics dominate with notes of Granny Smith apple, stone fruit, and lemon curd intermingled with floral highlights, wet stone, and subtle echoes of oak. Try a glass with lemon basil chicken or vegan alfredo with fresh garden peas and lemon zest. Cheers!
