This week’s food pick is a cheese that combines two of my favorite things into one delectable bite; goat’s milk and wine! I’ve been on a bit of a Spanish cheese kick and I can’t help but keep the ball rolling with the Mitica Drunken Goat. Drunken Goat is a Spanish goat’s milk cheese that spends 2-3 days soaking in a red wine paste made from the Monastrell grape, hence the playful name. After its red wine bath, the cheese is then aged for two and a half months giving way to a semi-soft and creamy texture with gentle fruity flavors. The time spent in wine and the short aging process makes this a crowd-pleaser, perfect for parties or just enjoying alongside a spread of meats and crackers. Pair this cheese with a fruity red wine such as a Pinot Noir, Beaujolais, a Spanish Garnacha or a fruited sour beer. Usually $8.99 per 6oz wedge, the Mitica Drunken Goat will be on sale this week for $6.99. Cheers and Bon Appetit!
