Gran Sasso Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2017

Sale Price:  $12.99

Reg Price:  $15.99

During one of our recent tastings I got really excited about a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from southern Italy.  Sometimes, wines from this area in this price range lack freshness and definition since they are typically sourced from co-ops or bought in bulk.  However, the Gran Sasso Montepulcian d’Abruzzo stood out for its clean and bright fruit.  The difference is that owner Valentino Sciotti and his winemaker work closely with their growers in Abruzzo.  Hand harvesting, partial destemming and temperature controlled fermentation ensure the high quality of the fruit.  This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is made for drinking young with delicious fresh cherry and berry fruit balanced by subtle oak and tobacco, and the approachable and forward style is balanced by good tannic structure and lingering finish.  This is a perfect wine for informal gatherings and weeknight meals!  Cheers!
