The Northeastern part of Italy is home to Friuli with its two main sub regions of Collio Goriziano and Colli Orientali.  This part of Italy forms the border with Slovenia and has a very rich wine-making history dating back to the 6th Century BC.  Today, Friuli is considered to be one of Italy’s most prestigious wine regions, in part due to its modern outlook, and of course because of its unique climate and soils.  Friuli’s proximity to the Adriatic Sea mitigates the climate, while its elevation helps keep the vines ventilated and well lit, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and gain complex flavors.   Ronco dell Betulle, owned by the Adami family, has a long history in the Rosazzo area of the Colli Orientali del Friuli.  They have owned the 17 hectares of land and been making wine here for 5 generations.  The entry level red wine Villa Oleis, named after a house in the Rosazzo Vineyard, is a delicious blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  Fresh red berries wrapped in spices burst from the glass and flow over the palate with fresh acidity and gentle tannins.  This wine will be fantastic with your charcuterie plates and grilled meats!  Cheers!
