Crooked Stave W.W.B.Y. 6.0% A.B.V. Though this is the first beer that I have featured from Crooked Stave, it is not the first beer to appear in the Wild Wild Brett Series line up. The Wild Wild Brett Series is a collection of different beers that are brewed with brettanomyces, and meant to illustrate this wild yeast strains versatility. It pours a cloudy golden/orange with an even layer of tiny glistening bubbles. The ingredients that are added during the brew are evenly represented by the nose with notes of tumeric, white pepper, mango, paprika, cinnamon and just a touch of honey. The mouth feel is pleasantly refreshing, but fat, with consistent carbonation that carries delicate flavors to the back of the throat to create a slightly tart but lengthy finish. The beers in this line up wont be around long so make it your priority to catch 'em all while you can, cheers! - Cody Posted in: NoneView / Add Comment | 0 Comment(s) | Rating: 0 of 5 | Share: Twitter, Facebook, Google +Cody's beer of the week 12/21/11December 21st, 2011 8:49am - Posted By: Cody Flanagan
Dry Dock Wee Heavy 9.5% A.B.V. I'm always delighted by what Dry Dock Brewing Company brings to my table, and to be honest if you're looking for a great winter warmer you don't have to look any further than their Wee Heavy. This scottish style ale pours a lovely shade of deep mahogany with a generous layer of beige head. The nose is incredibly complex with notes of toasted malts, toffee, molasses, raisins and brown sugar. For 9.5% the alcohol is hidden quite well and lends its hand to amplify the carbonation while at the same time creates a warm and lasting finish. Dry Dock is very talented at taking me by surprise, and if you're looking for the latest and greatest beer thrill pour this bad boy into your glass and start enjoying it. Well done fellas, thanks again. Mikkeller Ris a la M'ale 8.0% A.B.V. I spent the majority of last week thinking about what I was going to feature for this following week and I just couldn't help but choose another masterpiece from Mikkeller. This gypsy brewer creates some of the finest creations that i've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The Ris a la M'ale is a beautifully elegant and delicious creation that combines beer, almonds and cherries. It pours a lovely shade of pink that reminds me a lot of grapefruit juice with an ivory layer of head. The nose is simple but overwhelming with the aroma of candied almonds, belgian candy sugar, and just a hint of cherry torte. The mouth feel is slightly tart but refreshing with the subtle zip of carbonation and a pleasantly crisp finish. This, along with the other Mikkeller beers that we have in stock, is a limited release and won't last long. So, stop by and grab what you can from this brilliant beer baron while you can. Mikkeller Barrel-Aged Black Hole Red Wine 13.1% A.B.V. There's never a dull moment while enjoying a finely crafted brew from Mikkeller and their Barrel-Aged Black Hole Red wine is a wonderful representation of just how exciting their beers are. This powerful stout brewed with coffee, honey, vanilla and aged in wine barrels is exactly what you need after a long day of fighting the cold and battling winter traffic. This bad boy pours a deep black with a wonderful layer of beige head and has more to the aroma than almost anything I've ever smelled. Notes of freshly brewed coffee, fresh honey, bakers chocolate, oak, earth, and a touch of dark fruit blend together wonderfully with the lingering scent of alcohol. The mouth feel is pleasant with mild carbonation that enhances the taste of the dark fruit/red wine and the alcohol amplifies the coffee, chocolate and vanilla. The finish is robust and bold as the carbonation tapers off and leaves you with the burn of alcohol that can be felt from the back of the throat, to the chest, and own down to the stomach. So grab one of these on your way home because after you pop it I don't recommending doing anything that requires coordination.
