Rogue Santa's Private Reserve 6.0% A.B.V. Now that we can put the chaos of Thanksgiving behind us it's time to make that hasty transition into Christmas mode. It's time to start rushing out to grab holiday deals, decorate the home, subject ourselves to endless hours of Christmas music, and kick back and enjoy Rogue's Santa's Private Reserve. This tasty red ale is everything you need in a holiday beer. It pours a stunning shade of reddish amber with a thin lacing of cream colored head. The nose is complete with the aroma of roasted malts, toffee, and a combination of earthy and piney hops. These aromas translate to the palate to create a rich and creamy mouth feel with a flavor combination that starts off warm and malty but then finishes with just a hint of sprucey hops. We don't have much of this year left and Santa's Private Reserve from Rogue wont be here much longer either, so enjoy both while there is still time. Firestone Walker Reserve Porter 5.8% A.B.V. With the chaos that we are facing this week I wanted to feature a beer that is both flavorful and sessionable, to get everyone through these hectic holiday times. Firestone Walker's reserve porter pours a deep amber hue with a generous layer of head. On the nose there's an array of spices that compliment notes of roasted malts, coffee and maple syrup. The mouth feel is rich and refreshing as flavors of cinnamon please the palate preparing the senses for a lengthy finish that boasts chocolate covered coffee beans. This wonderfully delicate and tasty brew pairs incredibly well with the seasons holiday fare, but I like to enjoy mine alongside decadent desserts. So, whatever you may have going on this holiday season, Firestone Walker's reserve porter will help get you through. Anchor Steam Christmas Ale 5.5% A.B.V. Anchor Steam has been doing what they do for quite some time now, but each year they release a new version of this brew for our enjoyment. This year the Christmas Ale is a wonderfully enjoyable beverage that is both flavorful and sessionable. It pours a deep shade of amber with a generous amount of head. The nose is a pleasant combination of gingerbread, cinnamon sticks and fresh figs with just a hint of brown sugar. The mouth feel is rich but at the same time incredibly crisp and as the taste of spices warm the back of the throat, flavors of gingerbread combine with just a touch of cinnamon that seduce the taste buds. I enjoy this beer every year, but this years release was surprisingly superior to the its brothers of the past. So, as you're running around doing your holiday shopping, and trying to maintain a level of sanity when dealing with loved ones, grab a few of these bad boys to help ease the stress of the season. Avery The Czar 10.57 A.B.V. As the seasons change, the beers that we are offered do as well, and now that winter is here it's time for THEE imperial stout of the country, this being The Czar. Avery releases this monster but once a year, and if you're barbaric enough you'll equip yourself with a spiked helmet, an animal pelt, and a glass large enough to house your ambition and this unforgiving imperial stout. Czar pours a deep black with a head that boasts shades of beige and burnt umber, with an aroma that keeps you guessing. Notes of raisins, oak, coffee, bakers chocolate, molasses and smoke overwhelm the senses and prepares you for the most amazing assault that your senses will endure. Alcohol abuses the taste buds rendering them helpless against the invasion of flavors of dark chocolate, french pressed iced coffee, toasted malts and a finish complete with brown sugar and toffee. Whether you're trying to tolerate heading into battle in a drunken stupor or what you plan on doing after a long day trapped inside while the snow falls, the Czar will be there to dictate your evenings enjoyment. Fight the good fight and grab a hold of the best seasonal offering around. This one's for you Adam Avery. Deschutes Jubelale 6.7% A.B.V. Last week I made the mistake of trying to predict our erratic Colorado weather, so this week I thought I would play it safe and feature another fantastic winter seasonal, Deschutes Jubelale. Jubelale is a versatile winter seasonal that is appropriate for the unusually warm winter days we've been having and the colder snowy days as well. It pours a merky and incredibly dark shade of amber with a brilliant layer of beige head. The nose is beautifully complex with aromas of molasses, roasted malts, caramel, toffee with just a hint of earth. The mouth feel is rich but smooth with bright carbonation and a long finish that boasts flavors of caramel, malt and just a touch of hops. The alcohol content is hidden incredibly well but it also does a magnificent job of sneaking up on you if you've had a few, so be cautious. So, whether we get the snow we are expecting this week or not make sure you have some Jubelale on hand just in case.
