Lost Abbey Witch's Wit 4.8% A.B.V.   This lovely wit beer from the Lost Abbey is both delicate and flavorful, with a cloudy golden hue and a fluffy white lacing of pure white bubbles. On the nose the fresh aroma of lemon peel and yeast are enhanced by notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice with just the subtle hint of banana and honey. The mouth feel is pleasantly rich with a favorable amount of carbonation that magnifies flavors of banana and lemon zest with a nutty finish that lingers in the back of the throat. The heat that rises at the base of the witch's feet as she is burned at the stake only enhances this crisp beverage. As the witches fly through the sky this Halloween make sure you're feet are planted firmly on the ground and that Witch's Wit is planted firmly in your hands! Cheers!

Cody's beer of the week 10/19/11

Oskar Blues Ten Fidy 10.5% A.B.V.

Winter seasonals are an integral part of my beer geek regiment, and Ten Fidy is always at the top of my list when it comes to winter warmers. Ten Fidy pours a thick shade of black with a rich lacing of beige bubbles. The nose is an intense combination of  iced coffee, bakers chocolate, roasted malts, smoke and just a touch of vanilla extract. The mouth feel is big and rich like you just emptied out a quart of engine oil into your mouth. The carbonation is subtle but enhances flavors of bourbon, oak, vanilla and malt. A smokey finish is complimented by the pleasant burn of alcohol that lasts and lasts. Make sure you have your snifter handy to fully enjoy the aroma and flavor that Ten Fidy brings to the table. And as a side note, if you float just a teaspoon of bourbon on top of Ten Fidy you have yourself your own little barrel aged stout, just a little tip a few beer geek friends of mine gave me this weekend. Enjoy with caution, and enjoy all winter long! Cheers! - Cody

Odell Brewing Co. Isolation Ale 6.1% A.B.V.

Each year, for some reason, these Colorado winters always seem to catch me off gaurd. I'm never sure why, but I suppose it's a blessing, because when the first snow of the year falls it's a pleasant reminder that it's time to enjoy an ambundance of tasty winter warmers. Isolation Ale, a delicous English strong ale produced by Odell Brewing Co., is an excellent representation of what a winter warmer should be. Isolation shimmers a rich copper color that is wonderfully clear with a light dusting of pearly white bubbles that float delicately atop the surface. The aroma of cinnamon and sugar are complimented beautifully by the subtle hint of damp soil with lingering notes of copper and dried fruits. The mouth feel is rich and pleasing with just a bit of carbonation that awakens the tastebuds to wonderful flavors of cinnamon, sugar, spice, and a delicious finish complete with toasted malts and dates. The alcohol content is understated but is just present enought to warm the throat. One of my favorite choices to enjoy by the fire when the snow is falling outside. Take some time this season to relax, put your feet up and enjoy some Isolation. Cheers! -Cody

Great Divide Fresh Hop Pale Ale 6.1% A.B.V.   After yet another amazing weekend of getting down with some of the best and funkiest brews around I had to think long and hard about what to present you with this week. I wanted to feature a beer that truly illustrates artisan ales, and I think that Great Divide's Fresh Hop is one of those beers.Fresh Hop is a wonderfully balanced pale ale brewed with Pacific Northwest whole cone hops that boasts a beautiful orange hue with a generous lacing of off white bubbles. The aroma is one of the best things about this beer and reminds me of hanging around the brewery while the brewers are hard at work. The satisfying scent of the fresh whole cone hops that are added during the brewing process greet the nostrils and is followed by the pleaseant aroma of freshly trimmed grass with a crisp grapefruit finish, I suppose that's why the label says "grassy" and "citrusy." The flavor of hops greets the sides of the tongue but the sticky bitterness does not over power the citrus that refreshes the palate to create a pleasantly long finish. The Great American Beer Festival may be over but we have an overwhelming amount of tasty beer to enjoy right here in our own back yard. Fresh Hop is a limited release so enjoy it now or spend the next year pouting! Cheers! - Cody
