Avery The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest Lager
In honor of the Great American Beer Festival, which debuts this weekend, I wanted to present to you a beer that can hold its own against its competitors, Avery’s The Kaiser. This imperial oktoberfest lager stands at a powerful 9.3% but stays true to the traditional style. Its shimmering copper color demands attention as a true lager beer. On the nose you get an appealing sweetness with notes of strawberry shortcake and the subtle scent of yeast which blend together harmoniously to hide the alcohol content. The malt varieties used to make this beer create a sweetness of sugar cane that prepares the taste buds for the subtle bitterness that follows. The refreshing lager yeastiness is complimented but not overwhelmed by a finish that warms the back of the throat created by the alcohol content. You are left with a finish that is long and complex but light and enjoyable at the same time. For a 9.3% beer The Kaiser is surprisingly mellow but be sure you enjoy with caution! And of course as a friend of mine would say and as we should all say before we tip our glasses back, prost!
