I’m sure that a lot of you are familiar with Port, the delicious red dessert wine from Portugal.  Well recently, several Port houses have also started producing and exporting dry table wines, both white and red, from their vineyards in the Douro Valley.  Vale do Bomfim red is produced from vineyards that traditionally supply Dows.  The Symington family began making dry wines for the family and friends and as production and quality increased, more became available to outside markets.  Vale do Bomfim is a delicious and elegant red made from a blend of Portuguese varietals:  Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Cao.  Don’t let the names scare you though, the wine is a nice balance of blackberry, plums, floral notes, pepper spice and a touch of licorice.  Its medium to full body and nicely balanced acidity make this a great wine for everyday drinking.  Cheers!
