When the temperatures plummet and snow is falling, my taste for wine turns to heavier, richer fruit forward reds.  If you’re looking for a wine to take the sting out of the cold this week, I have just the wine for you.  Red Heads Studio was born when a few ‘flying winemakers’ banded together to make wine styles that they liked and wanted to drink.  Bored with working as junior winemakers at big wineries in Australia, they wanted to try their hands at making some of the great styles they had been making at different estates in Europe.  They bought an old café called ‘Red Heads’ and so began the space for making  wine.  For the Yard Dog Red form McLaren Vale, they were recreating a Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a little added underdog varietal Petit Verdot.  The resulting wine is a blast to drink with luscious red fruit in an easy to drink style.  Red and dark fruits mingle together with a little oak spice, floral notes, and dusty minerality to balance it all out.  The full bodied style with round, ripe tannins is just a blast to drink on these snowy days.  Cheers!
